Action Shot

Thought I would share this hilarious outtake/light test from a corporate headshot by my buddy and colleague Daryl Shields was shooting in the studio this Friday.  This is what happens when you put two photographers in a room together….hilarity ensues.  Enjoy

One & Only Palmilla : The Gallery

To say that this week as been a productive week would be quite an understatement.  On top of shooting aerials out at the new Cowboys Stadium (see finished photography here (aerials to be posted soon), I also wrapped up all the final post production on the shoot from the Four Seasons Santa Barbara (check out the images here).  Well, today I bring you finished imagery from the shoot down in Cabo at the One & Only Palmilla.

This shoot was a challenging one (read about here) for a couple of reasons.  To kick the shoot off I had a tear on both my right and left achilles.  This has been an injury I have been nursing for almost 5 months now.  On top of that the weather never quite seemed to be up for the challenge of a shoot.  Cloudy mornings only to finally clear up by 11 or so when the summer light was too harsh.  Good news was on a couple of occasions the stars aligned and the clouds parted.

So with all of that being said, I give you the gallery!  Enjoy

Four Seasons Santa Barbara: The Gallery

It’s gallery time everyone!  One of the many nice things about spending a few days back home is that I get to put all the finishing touches on the images from a shoot.  This kind of post production can be challenging to do on the road as it requires absolute color accuracy and copious amounts of processing power to do the compositing.  Unfortunately being on the road only allows me to work off of my MacBook Pro.  While a great piece of kit there is still no substitute for being back in the studio working on a proper work station.

Enough of the rambling.  Enjoy the gallery from my shoot at the Four Seasons Santa Barbara.  This was another shoot where I was blessed with a great team of people to work with from both Four Seasons and TWHR (Ty Ware Hotels and Resorts).  So big thanks again to Erin, Doug, Victoria, Zach and the countless others at the resort that made this happen (and Perry of course for moral support and an amazing sense of humor).  Click here for the gallery.

Cowboys Stadium: The Gallery

In the spirit of catching up I’m posting the finished gallery from the Cowboy’s extravaganza that was the month of October.  I’ve also included in the gallery some of the earlier architectural shots as well as some game day shots from the opening day game and the futbol/soccer game that was the World Soccer Championship.  Enjoy the gallery.

Las Ventanas: The Gallery

You will have to pardon my absence the last few weeks as I’ve been feverishly working on mounds and mounds of post production that have built up over the months of intense traveling.  Good news is it has been very fruitful the last few days.  One of the projects I was able to finish up was the very memorable shoot down at Las Ventanas Al Paraiso (see posts 1,2,3,4).

As many of you read in my previous posts, this was shoot where everything came together.  Stunning weather, an incredible team from the resort, and also let us not forget, and insanely stunning property.  So without further delay I give you the mega gallery from the shoot.

Four Seasons Hualalai : Previews

After been back in dallas for less than 48 hours it’s time to hit the road again.  I’m shooting in the east coast this week and then migrating over to Phoenix for a couple of jobs and then back to Dallas before Thanksgiving.  I thought I’d post some more previews from the Four Season’s shoot for your viewing pleasure.  Enjoy!

The most amazing picture(s) I’ve ever seen

7 months ago while out to dinner with my brother Ryan and his wife Jacque I was shown what I thought to be at the time the most amazing image I’d ever seen.  This image was not of a serene landscape, or that of a pritzker prize winning piece of architecture.  This image was the sonogram of their 8 week old baby.

Over the course of the next 7 months I watch my sister in law grown bigger and bigger (quite gracefully I might add), as well as watching what used to be an exercise room turn in to a full blown nursery.

Well tonight, 4,300 miles away from my photoshoot at the Four Seasons in Hawaii the most amazing photo ever created was being taken.  That photo is of my new baby niece, Zoe Ryan Marvin.

While setting up for my sunset shot this evening I got the call from my brother alerting me to baby Zoe’s arrival.  While beautiful light washed over the resort and I shot away while talking to my brother on the phone I heard the most amazing and heart wrenching sound, that of baby Zoe crying.  If it wasn’t official before it was forever made official by hearing the sounds of a crying baby in the background thousands of miles away, I am an uncle, and most importantly my brother and his wife are now father and mother.

So until I have children of my own, please enjoy the two most important pictures I’ve ever seen and help me welcome Zoe Ryan Marvin in to this world.

Four Seasons Hualalai: Update

4,300 miles later I’m in Hawaii creating stunning images at the beautiful Four Seasons Hualalai.  Life is good, jet lagged but good.  Island life is great, I’ve got my floral print shorts on, my flip flops and just the most delightful breeze following me around.  Enough about the idyllic setting here in Hawaii, let’s see some pictures.  We’ll start with my lovely shorts (compliments of bonobos (seriously, check these guys out, really solid menswear) and end off with pool shot that makes you want drop whatever you are doing and dive in.  More posts and previews to come.  Enjoy

Life: Updates

I know it’s been a week or so since my last blog post but lots has happened despite the lack of postings.  Immediately after I hit the ground from the Bahamas (read 1,2) I locked myself in my office to put as much of a dent as possible on the imagery from the Cowboy’s shoot.  2600 frames to edit, composite, and retouch is no small task.  Throw in a quick trip to Austin for a shoot and then Rolla Missouri and you’ve got a hell of a week of traveling and retouching.

Tommorow I head back out on the road to shoot the newly renovated Four Seasons Hualalai which should be quite a delightlful shoot.  I’ll be in Hawaii for the week and then embark on a 10 day journey that  will start on the east coast in Annapolis Maryland and end up 4 projects later in Phoenix Arizona.  Then back to Dallas right in time for Thanksgiving and more importantly the birth of my new niece (name TBD but I’m voting for Baby Marvin)!  Very excited to be an uncle for the first time and thrilled for my brother Ryan and his lovely and very pregnant wife Jacque.

After what will be close to 130,000 miles so far this year I think it’s time to hang up my hat (minus a personal trip her and there) and put the suitcases away for the rest of the year and hunker down on some much needed post production and also some quality family time.  It’s been a hell of a year of traveling that has taken me around the globe almost 4 times and it’s not quite over (despite the christmas music I heard on the rental car shuttle today!).

I’ll post as much as I can from Hawaii and I promise I’ve got a whole archive of behind the scenes to pieces together to share as well as lots of finished galleries of images to post.  Until then, have a great week and look for some amazing posts from Hawaii.

One & Only Ocean Club: Update

Quick update from my shoot at the One and Only Ocean Club down in Nassau.  Had a great day of shooting on property.  Below is a shot an evening storm that came through right at sunset.  This is only appropriate as the sunrise this morning greeted me with showers as well.  Good news is after the showers at dawn is was a stunning day for shooting. Off to bed.  Looking forward to what the tropics has in store for tomorrow.  Will try to post some proper resort shots tomorrow.
