Above the clouds

It never stops amazing me when I fly how you can take off in dreary weather but once you lift off you get to leave it all behind once you break through the clouds.  I had a similar experience sky diving years ago in marginal weather.  It was absolutely stunning to rise above the weather everyone else sees from the ground in some what of a private weather system.  Enjoy the shot from somewhere between Dallas and Puerto Vallarta.

More things you don’t want to see when traveling

Right after I published my last post I looked up from the Admiral’s Club at DFW and saw something on fire across the runway.  Not exactly something you want to see prior to taking off.  Doesn’t appear to be a plane, it looks like maybe some fuel got set of fire (why, I don’t know).  Either way, interesting to see.

Off to Punta Mita

About to head out to Punta Mita Mexico to shoot the new St Regis Resort that HKS/Hill Glazier designed.  Should be an amazing week of shooting as weather is calling for clear skies and temps in the 80’s.  I’ll try to post some shots during the shoot.  In the meantime enjoy this shot from the admirals club.

Outdoor Showers

While in Scottsdale a few weeks ago shooting the Four Seasons Scottsdale I discovered something amazing, this my friends is the outdoor shower.  You might say, “Aren’t you supposed to be showering inside?” this is a common mistake.  Sure the Four Seasons will give you a gigantic bathtub and a separate indoor shower, but inside the regular shower is a door that leads to one of the great things in life, the outdoor shower.  There is just something about being outside taking a shower, I don’t know how else to describe it but I thought it was only appropriate to take a couple shots with the trusty iPhone.  I’ve also uploaded a small sampling of the final images from the shoot.  Enjoy.

Things you don’t want to hear at 30,000 ft

Mid way through my flight from Orlando to Dallas this week the flight attendant gets on the ringer and ask in a very stern but desperate voice “is anyone on the plane a doctor?”….there was complete silence.  She came the ringer again and said there was a medical emergency and anyone who was a doctor was greatly needed.  Fortunately a male ER nurse stepped up to take care of the sick passenger who thought he was suffering from a hear attack.  Two things come to my mind, 1. don’t fly Tuesday mornings anymore as there are not any doctors on those flights, and 2. what the hell do you do when someone gets really ill during a flight.  Long story short we were cleared for rapid decent back in to Dallas and landed a half hour ahead of time.  As the paramedics wheeled him off the plane I caught a glimpse of the sick passenger and he looked terrible, the same kind of look you would have from having a near death experience 30,000 ft with no help.  Needless to say he looked a bit disheveled.  Kind of a strange way to start off a blog but it’s very appropriate for all the strange things that happen when you spend 100+ days a year on the road.  I promise to have more enjoyable antics and beautiful pictures to share in the future.
